Transmission Replacement
If your Transmission is not operating correctly. Bring the vehicle into First Gearboxes and our Technicians will diagnose the faults and repair the transmission at an efficient and reasonable cost we’ll determine if the Gearbox should be repaired, rebuilt, or replaced. Often, we find smaller components outside the Transmission or gearbox just need to be replaced and you’re back on the road again. Complete transmission failures are not possible to repair. If that happens to your car, truck, SUV, van, or commercial vehicle we’ll have to fit a used, rebuilt, or reconditioned Transmission or Gearbox. The good news is Transmission failure is preventable in most cases if you maintain your transmission.
Sadly many people never think to do this. If a transmission has a lot of miles on it and is starting to show signs the unit is getting to the end of its life other parts may be worn and subject to fail in a short time. In that case, we may advise you to replace the transmission anyway because, in the long run, it can be less expensive. You can then just move the car along but with that, you have the moral dilemma of passing on a ticking mechanical time bomb that could cost the next owner a lot of money. What to do?
HOW MANY LABOUR HOURS DOES IT TAKE TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION?
THERE ARE MANY VARIABLES AND IT OFTEN DEPENDS ON THE VEHICLE. In most cases, though it usually takes a day or two to replace a transmission in most rear-wheel vehicles. Modern front-wheel drive vehicles can be more complex and it can take 3 or 4 days. These are all things to consider before you purchase your next vehicle and either First Gearboxes or AA technical advice can advise you here if you are a member of the AA which recommend. it’s real value for money spent.
As an example Minis need to have their whole motor taken out to replace a fan belt on some models so it pays to do your homework. It’s very easy to trip yourself up when buying a new car and find out the repair bills a large simply because of the choice you didn’t realize you had made.
